Beziehungsweisen

For close to 40 years, Andrea Wolfensberger has been studying natural phenomena and their immanent laws. Her art reveals affinities between seemingly disparate rhythms and patterns of movement, as when she traces swarms of star- lings dancing in flight, uncovers the inner structure of matter or parses an acoustic event. In recent years, waves and curves, inscribing extended and winding paths, have become the raw material of Wolfensberger’s scrutiny. When she started digitally recording movement, diagrams of time and volume keep tugging her work into the third dimension. The large-format sculptures that Andrea Wolfensberger sets in space, both indoors and outdoors, are powerful fragments of vulnerable times.
This new survey of her work follows her publication Zeit-Lupen, 2007. A portrait emerges, in pictures and words, of an artist whose exploratory and experimental curiosity brings to light several things at once; we discover the drive that propels her perceptions, their deft translation into various artistic media as well as her unwavering commitment to the here and now.
