Karmakri

Alphabet of Spices

The fictional island of Lemusa lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, on 33° North / 44° West. Diverse landscapes await exploration, archaeological sites recall the complex history of immigration, museums and libraries testify to the richness of culture – cuisine and hospitality illustrate what defines mauselach, the island’s typical zest for life. Thanks to its geographical position and, even more so, its extraordinary history, the country is home to a wide variety of spices, from ajwain to vanilla, which thrive in its gardens – some in the north, others in the south, some at sea level, others in mountainous areas. As a result, almost all zones of the island produce their own specialities. The book Karmakri (Lemusan for spicing) presents some of these seasonings in alphabetical order and describes the areas where they are grown and processed. Many of these portraits are supplemented by recipes in which the respective flavourings play a special role. In between, there are short captions, reflections, poems, essays, and stories from the areas where the individual delicacies are produced.
