Photography and penandink

Irène Wydler shows photographs for the first time after almost 50 years of painting and drawing. These are self-contained images, views and perspectives that have always accompanied, elucidated and complemented her work. Here, they are juxtaposed with a cycle of pen-and-ink paintings on vulnerable Chinese paper, visual narratives in black and white that have emerged over the past years of landscapes, bodies of water with boats and mountains.
Photography and works in pen and ink have joined company, linking times and places in the artist’s life. Irène Wydler confronts associative narratives in pen and ink with photographs of phenomena that captivated her. Her dialogue in black and white thrives on ambiguity, in which the familiar is animated by flashes of the unknown.
