Flurina Sokoll

Flurina Sokoll’s installations explore a world that is experiencing its own decline. Farsighted and astute, the artist from the Grisons creates arrangements out of found pieces, drawing attention to how we relate to transience and sustainability. The book attempts to situate her subtle oeuvre within our contemporary context and gives us the opportunity to consider how we deal with the remains of our material culture. Glass vases, wooden platters, mirrors, strips of fabric or heaters are both the substance and point of departure of her works. The artist does little to change the objects she uses, restricting herself to sparing interventions. The artistry is primarily revealed in the connections between these unchanged objects and the moment in which they become embedded in a sculptural arrangement. By juxtaposing ephemerality and renewal, Sokoll gives these things a second_life.

Flurina Sokoll is the first recipient of the art prize of the Bündner Kunstverein (Grisons Art Association) inaugurated in 2019. The prize includes a solo presentation at the Grisons Art Museum in Chur and a publication.
