On August 23, 2017, a large section of Piz Cengalo in the Sciora Group (GR) broke away amid a deafening roar. Three million cubic meters of rock and mud plunged at high speed into the Bondasca Valley as far as the village of Bondo, sweeping away houses, roads, and infrastructure and leaving behind a five-kilometer-long wasteland of rock.

La Frana marks the conclusion of a multi-year artistic project that began during this landslide. The natural disaster, documented through photography and drawings by Sabine Tholen, is complemented by contributions from specialists in the region and the mountain world, offering essential reflections on the profound transformation of the contemporary landscape, the impacts associated with the Anthropocene, and the resulting climate emergency.
